Hello and welcome, I am Harper from ownmuse.com and now Start a Fashion Blog.com. I started this blog after learning so much from my previous blogs that I wanted to write it all down as a way to help others on their blogging journey and as a means of documenting my own blogging progress.
Since childhood, I have loved computers, I remember drawing in the first computer programs and beginning of coding. I first started blogging in 2010, I had completed my university degree in Design, a huge degree which had me mastering all areas of design. Completely over educated and with no idea how I was going to hone in on my education and use it to its capacity. I followed my heart and started styling advertising photo shoots and then fashion editorials for magazines. After a few years, my partner and I headed to London.
There I was fortunate enough to work for Net-a-porter.com online designer fashion retailer and online editorial magazine. I have designed websites for fashion brands; Jimmy Choo, Mathew Williamson and Chloé to name a few. We were in the UK for 4 years. I loved (nearly, nothing is perfect) every minute and I completely recommend travelling and stepping outside your comfort zone. It does change you, but home is always there, the memories last a lifetime and fill your head in the most uncanny of moments. It’s not an easy thing to do, well wasn’t for me but was incredibly rewarding as anything that is hard is. Sounds like blogging!
On my return to sunny Sydney, I then worked for Vogue and Harpers Bazaar – designing content, creating websites and working on marketing campaigns. I still freelance for Vogue but spend most of my time blogging.
I am the editorial director for style blog ownmuse.com and this blog. I have had other style and fashion niche blogs before this but these are my main focus. I have been truly blessed by my working experiences in the fashion industry.
“At times it astonishes me how I ever was able to obtain these highly competitive jobs. A lot of hard work! All the time – keep striving and creating.”
I think of myself as an introvert. I am great one-on-one and extremely hard working but I am not your out there kind of girl. If I can do it so can you! It has been an amazing experience working for these fashion giants.
“My love for technology has never faulted, I am always motivated to be blogging – from the content creation, sourcing images, styling, writing, social and last but most definitely not least – coding. I love blogging. It’s exciting and heartbreaking but very rewarding and satisfying.”
Blogging is my balance, it’s my creative outlet, it’s my ‘me time’. The more I connect with other bloggers the more I feel welcome and I really enjoy meeting and making new friends online. I hope you do too!
If you want to start a blog or website, I recommend you read through ‘How to start a blog’. There are details specifically for those interested in fashion and style blogging but there is plenty of general information too and it’s FREE.
I want to help you to connect, be creative and hopefully make money blogging! It’s an amazing journey.
Email me at email@example.com with any suggestions, tips and/or partnership ideas – I would love to hear from you.
